ANCW Awards Outstanding Educator of the Year

Michele Bartholomay recognized for volunteer efforts.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (Jan. 31, 2014) — Michele Bartholomay from Sheldon, N.D., was recognized for her outstanding volunteer efforts by the American National CattleWomen Inc. (ANCW) by being awarded the 2013 Outstanding Educator of the Year award.

The Educator of the Year award recognizes a member of ANCW who has initiated and participated in innovative and high-quality programs in their local units or states in beef promotion and/or beef education.  CattleWomen who receive this distinguished honor demonstrate skills in reaching a variety of audiences with creative and timely messages about beef, and show evidence of having made significant impact by telling the beef story.  Fellow CattleWomen nominate candidates for the Outstanding Educator and this award is given annually.

“Michele has a magnetic personality and her love for the beef community is remarkable," said Sarah Bohnenkamp, ANCW executive director. "She is passionate about sharing her story and takes advantage of every opportunity she is presented with to engage with people who want to know more about our industry. As a member of the National Beef Speakers Bureau she connected with hundreds of meal-time decision makers and youth and she is always sharing creative ways CattleWomen can make a difference.  She’s a fabulous educator in our community and it’s always a pleasure working with her.”

When asked why she’s committed to CattleWomen programs and beef education Bartholomay said “I love that my husband and I get to be a part of the Ag community.  As I became involved in CattleWomen I grew to see a huge disconnect between people and Ag.  It became my passion to inform people that the men and women who are raising their food not only care for their own family’s well-being but everybody else’s, too. Someone needs to be the cheerleader for rancher/farmers, and I have the honor of being a part of a team that has a goal of spreading information and truth.”

Bartholomay also shared a few words of advice for others who want to engage in beef education efforts.  She said “Be prepared for anything. Be ready to answer questions from the differences between grass-finished and grain-finished beef to tips on how to prepare a fast week-night beef meal.  Be ready to listen and share your passion!”
