Collegians Know Their Stuff

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Jan. 30, 2009) — Attendees of the 2009 Cattle Industry Annual Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., were able to witness some of the nation’s leading collegians in the cattle industry show off their industry knowledge during the National Cattlemen’s Foundation (NCF) Collegiate Beef Quiz Bowl.

The quiz bowl’s purpose is to develop future leaders by engaging them in competition and presenting the contestants with the opportunity to be a part of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) conference. The national quiz bowl teams earned the right to compete by winning their regional sections of the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) Quadrathalon.

Four teams competed in a double-elimination competition, with rounds of 25 questions each. Elizabeth Smith, Amy Schollenberger, Kristina McAllister and Jennifer Rassler from Penn State University took home the championship plaque and bragging rights.

The second-place team, representing Kansas State University, consisted of members Rebecca Tokach, Adam Hatesohl, Cody Schneider and Andy Stickel.

Third place was awarded to Sara Evans, Wes Chism, Gary Hamlin and Blair Cecil of the University of Kentucky, while the University of Wyoming team comprised of Kaylee Reed, Lindsey Noreen, Allison Iroz and Lander Nicodemus placed fourth.
