Issues Management, PR Set Priorities
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Jan. 30, 2009) — The Issues Management and Public Relations subcommittees reported planning priorities for fiscal year (FY) 2010 during the Joint Information Committee meeting at the 2009 Cattle Industry Annual Convention in Phoenix. Issues Management offered up its first directive in recent history.
In order, the 2010 planning priorities of the Public Relations subcommittee are as follows:
- Make mealtime for Americans easier by being convenient, a terrific value and great-tasting.
- Aggressively share environmental practices and animal welfare efforts.
- Be a part of government and health organizations’ nutrition guidance.
- Provide thought leaders with science-based industry information.
- Directly associate with a healthy lifestyle.
- Protect consumers from E. coli and salmonella.
- Own protein in the minds of consumers.
- Educate targeted decision makers about attributes that differentiate U.S. beef from international competitors.
- Take proactive steps to protect public health from emerging threats.
- Responsibly employ economically viable practices without negatively affecting beef quality or safety.
The Joint Information Management Subcommittee presented the following ranking for their 2010 planning priorities:
- Aggressively share environmental practices and animal welfare efforts.
- Provide thought leaders with science-based industry information.
- Directly associate with a healthy lifestyle.
- Take proactive steps to protect public health from emerging threats.
- Protect consumers from E. coli and salmonella.
- Be a part of government and health organizations’ nutrition guidance.
Also, the joint committee passed a directive, presented by the Joint Issues Management Subcommittee, calling for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) to research and develop a process for evaluating potential partnerships with nongovernmental organizations and report back during the 2009 Summer Conference in Denver.
