Kansas State University Claims Championship at 2010 Cattle Industry Convention Quiz Bowl

WASHINGTON (Feb. 3, 2010) – Students at Kansas State University (KSU) won the Collegiate Quiz Bowl held last week in San Antonio during the 2010 Cattle Industry Convention and NCBA Trade Show. The contest helps develop future beef industry leaders and provides students an opportunity to be a part of the convention.

The Collegiate Quiz Bowl was sponsored by a grant from The Farm Credit System Foundation, as well as the National Cattlemen’s Foundation.

Members of the KSU winning team were Anna Pesta, Hyatt Frobose, Thomas Wilson and Clement Neely. Dr. Ken Odde is the advisor to the winning team.

KSU bested Penn State University in the final of the double-elimination competition. Penn State had beaten KSU in the previous round to force the face-off. Others competing in the Quiz Bowl were the University of Georgia and Oregon State University.

Teams earned the right to compete in the 2010 Beef Quiz Bowl by winning their section of the American Society of Animal Science Academic Quadrathalon last year.

Each round in the 2010 Collegiate Quiz Bowl consisted of 25 questions, with all judges’ decisions final. Every fourth question, if answered correctly, allowed for a bonus question for additional points.

Members of the other competing teams were:

Penn State University: Jenna Pannone, Elizabeth Cloninger, Dustin Brown and Robyn Beck (Chris Raines, Advisor).

University of Georgia: Matthew London, Ashley Buford, Rachel Patrick and David Cromley (Kari Turner, Advisor).

Oregon State University: Ruben Mendoza, Andrew Hartenstein, Nick Moxley and Keely Oswald (Matt Kennedy, Advisor).
