ANCW Membership Approves New Structure
General membership meeting conducts ANCW business.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 5, 2014) — The American National CattleWomen Inc. (ANCW) general membership voted to change its committee structure at the organization’s general membership meeting at the 2014 Cattle Industry Convention in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 5.
The bylaw changes combined the committees into three focus areas: Youth development, beef promotion and legislation. The vice president will chair the youth development committee, the president-elect will chair the beef promotion committee and the president will chair the legislation committee. Working groups are within each committee, and the president-elect appoints a working-group manager. The working-group manager will coordinate the committee for that focus area, though all members are welcomed and encouraged to join a committee.
Barbara Jackson, 2013 ANCW president, said membership growth is trending back up by 6%. She also said that activity reports show more than 9,400 volunteer hours were logged, more than 1 million consumers were reached and a wide variety of activities were submitted.
Sarah Bohnenkamp, ANCW executive director, highlighted that the beef story toolkit increased downloads by 241% from the prior year with 645 downloads. Summer conference attendance increased by 16.5% and national conference attendance appeared to rise, as well.
Three new states — Ohio, Tennessee and Washington — competed in the National Beef Ambassador Program (NBAP), Bohnenkamp noted. Total NBAP impression increased by 17%, and 74% of those surveyed said their opinion of beef improved as a result of NBAP interaction.
In the National Beef Cook-off, positive beef messages reached half a billion consumers, Bohnenkamp said. Additionally, 29 state beef councils participated in public relations efforts for these programs, which is an increase from last year. The ANCW Speakers Bureau reached 11,853 mealtime decision makers, and average shift in opinion — gauged by a pre- and post-talk surveys — was 15.5%. Twelve new speakers joined the team in 2013.
Bohnenkamp noted some areas to improve upon next year, including furthering relationships with industry partners, engagement and reporting, and funding.
ANCW recognized Joan Hempstead as CattleWomen of the Year, Michele Bartholomay as Educator of the Year, and Evelyn Brown as Promoter of the Year. The new officer team includes Patti Buck, Colorado, president; Melanie Fowle, California, president-elect; Ann Nogan, Pennsylvania, vice president; Jo Stanko, Colorado, recording secretary; and Barbara Jackson, Arizona, past president
