ANCW Gears Up

Opening session kicks off week of business and education meetings.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2014) — Barbara Jackson, 2013 American National CattleWomen Inc. (ANCW) president, welcomed cattlewomen to the 2014 Cattle Industry Convention and NCBA Trade Show, telling members to gear up for a productive week.

Sarah Bohnenkamp, executive director of the ANCW, outlined the organization’s three areas of focus: beef promotion, youth development and legislation. These “pockets of passion” are the basis of a proposed committee restructure.

She outlined some events for the week, including hearing from the “Mommy Hates Cooking” blogger Kristy Still, “What Does the Farmer Say?” YouTube creator Derek Klingenberg; checkoff-funded K-12 education research; National Beef Ambassador Program updates; policy updates and engagement; and a training session for the 2014 checkoff program, Moms, Millennials and More (M3).

Additionally, ANCW elections and bylaw voting will occur in the general membership meeting.

A new ANCW hospitality suite is available this year to entice young professionals to learn more about the ANCW organization and to potentially grow membership.

Jackson elaborated on ANCW’s new committee restructure. If your organization is not growing for the membership, she said, you’re going backward. The focus areas will expand into the whole organization, and committees will turn into more open working groups.

She asked members for their criteria for success and said that by the end of the week, the executive committee will ensure that those will be met. Tools to share the beef story, vision and focus, toolkits, plans for action and friendships should be achieved by the end of the week.

Of her plan for the week, Jackson asserted, "Work smart, get over it and have fun. I commend you for taking the time the come to Nashville this week. We’ll make the most of it, and we will have a lot of fun."
